Structure
In the specialization Soil Sciences of the Master's program in Agricultural Sciences, you will take five compulsory modules in which you will deal in depth with soil biological, soil chemical and soil physical topics as well as material dynamics in agroecosystems. In an integrated project, you will deal holistically with a concrete soil science problem including theoretical background, planning of the study, implementation in the field and laboratory, and evaluation.
In the elective area you choose six modules out of 12, in which you deepen specific aspects of soil science (e.g. molecular soil ecology, soil genesis, soil protection), learn and apply special techniques (e.g. GIS or environmental analysis), get to know soils, vegetation and landscapes of Central Europe in theory and practice or deal with resources in the tropics and subtropics. In the elective area, you can draw on the entire range of courses offered by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
The full range of courses in the Soil Science major can be found in the curriculum as well as in the module catalog. Knowledge of soil science at Bachelor level is necessary and assumed.
You will finish your studies with the Master's thesis, in which you will work on a research or practice-oriented problem. A selection of current master's theses can be found at the homepages of the departments (Soil Chemistry and Pedology, Soil Biology, Biogeophysics).
