The Institute of Soil Science and Land Evaluation, founded in 1876, is among the largest and most renowned Soil Science institutes in Germany. It is divided into three departments: Soil Chemistry and Pedology, Soil Biology, and Biogeophysics. Our research focuses on pedogenetic transformation processes of soil organic matter and minerals, microbial ecology, and measuring and modeling biophysical processes in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum.
